We at Fairmont United Methodist Church will now be requiring masks and social distancing inside our building. We have made this decision in response to the surge in cases statewide.  If Martin County’s positive test rate falls to 5% or below, masking will be optional.

Their latest announcement (linked here:…/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html) outlines that FULLY VACCINATED individuals are no longer at risk of COVID-19 and therefore can resume most indoor and outdoor activities with little-no risk.

We are HIGHLY ENCOURAGING that any individuals who enter our church building, who are NOT vaccinated 1) get vaccinated, and 2) wear a mask while in our facilities.

HOWEVER, we will not be REQUIRING that any person provide proof of vaccination, nor are we limiting our services from those who are not yet vaccinated.

Simply put, if you choose not to vaccinate, then you are only putting yourself and others who have made that same decision at risk, and because of this we feel confidently that we can begin to return to “normal” without a concern for putting our congregation at risk.

We want to be kind. We want to reflect the Spirit of Christ Jesus who accommodates the weak and the disadvantaged. So please, if you are uncomfortable going maskless, even if vaccinated, then you are supported in your decision to continue to mask. If you wish to not wear a mask, even if you are not vaccinated, please remember the lives you could be putting at risk by doing so. And allow one another to come back to “normal” at everyone’s own pace and comfortability without pressuring and bullying them into a decision they are not ready to make.
